The Making of Echoes of Light

I’m absolutely ecstatic to release my new single, Echoes of Light, on May 5th. I worked with Producer Troy Dexter to deliver a new vision of Instrumental Guitar music. I pushed him pretty hard to delve into new territory for him and to dive into my vibe of Electro Space Rock. And he delivered, boy did he deliver.

The way it goes is I chart out the song to get a rough sketch. Then I go into my computer and produce a rough demo of the song. I write and record a melody and some solos. I then send the chart and the demo to Troy to flesh out something bigger and more concrete. He add some synths, keyboards, bass, and percussion. Meanwhile drummer Dave Beyer added a terrific drum groove to help propel the song forward.

After all of that, it was my turn to record all of my guitar parts. And of course I changed a lot of the melody from what I had originally written. And the solos most definitely changed from what I had on the demo. But what’s most important here is that the melody is something I sing first. I then play what I sang and then give a listen to hear how I feel about it. Most things I keep, but sometimes I try something else. When you listen to this song, you are essentially hearing my singing. Except I’m not singing with my voice, my guitar is singing for me.

In short, that is how this song came together.
